Connecting K-12 partners with on-campus research

The Biotechnology Outreach Education Center offers a unique option to connect K-12 teachers and students to relevant Iowa State University research projects.

We partner with K-12 teachers to bring innovative and exciting experiences to students.  Visits can be tailored to students’ learning needs while featuring cutting-edge research done right here in Ames!

To schedule a visit, please read through the information below and complete the form.  A BOEC staff member will contact you about details.

Experiences may include…

On-campus visit considerations

On-campus school visits are offered on the first and third Mondays of each month during the school year.

Most on-campus visits to the BOEC will require at least 4-5 hours. 

Classes typically arrive around 9:00am and leave around 3:00pm with time built in for lunch, which is on your own.

BOEC lab facilities can accommodate a maximum of 20 students.

Students and teachers will be asked to sign an ISU photo release form prior to the visit.

Teachers should obtain parental permission prior to the visit and possess all required student health documentation.

Visits to the Biotech Outreach Education Center located on the Iowa State University campus will take place on the first and third Mondays of each month during the 2022-23 school year.  Educators should use the request form below to initiate a school visit.  BOEC staff will confirm information about the visit via email after the form is submitted.
